James DeVaughn Born: circa 1752 Md. or Va. Died: June 4, 1828 Licking County Ohio Burried: Spouse: Lydia (?) Wed: Father: Mother: Children: (son) DeVaughn Walter DeVaughn b. circa 1795 d. circa 1845 James DeVaughn b. circa 1784 Edward Roberts DeVaughn b. 12/12/1785 Lydia DeVaughn b. circa 1790 (daughter) DeVaughn b. circa 1800 Fought in war of 1812 and Revolutionary War.
Joined Revolutionary war from Md. Ella McGavin (nee Barber) has James complete war record. James was apparently a close associate of George Washington and paid some of Washingtons war expenses.

The 1790 census shows George DeVaughn (possibly James' father or uncle) living on property adjacent to George Washington. The Census shows only two major land owners in the area, George Washington and the Fitzhugh family.

An entry in the Fairfax county Virginia court records show an INDENTURE made between WILLIAM FITZHUGH JUNR and JOHN DEVAUGHN on July 10, 1784 for "rents and Covenants" to be paid by John to William Fitzhugh for 117 acres of land and premises to John DeVaughn and his assigns during the natural lives of "John DeVaughn, Ruth DeVaughn his Wife and Jonathan DeVaughn his Son".

There is also a Peter DeVaughn on the roll of the Revolutionary War but there is no documented blood line.

(Bob or George) Montgomery Born: circa 1845 Died: Burried: Spouse: Wed: Father: Mother: Children: Harry Harris 'Arthur' Montgomery Left wife and son in Nebraska to go prospecting in California. Partner of Death Valley Scottie in the Skido gold mine.

Daugherty) Children of Spouse-1: Ruth Montgomery b. 1905 d. 1910 Thelma Montgomery b. circa 1910 Children of Bertha Augusta DeVaughn Harry DeVaughn Montgomery Sr. Claudius George Montgomery June Elizabeth Montgomery

From recollections of Harry DeVaughn Montgomery Sr and Claudius George Montgomery:

Harry was given the name Harry Harris at birth, but later decided that since Harry and Harris were forms of the same name he would go by Harry Arthur.

Harry's father left his wife and infant child in Ord, Nebraska and went to California with his brother(s) where they eventually became successful gold miners. He was also a partner of Death Valley Scotty in the highly successful Skidoo gold mine. Harry's Father and Uncle were Bob and George, but not sure which was Bob and which was George.

Harry's Mother died when he was about 6 years old and he was raised by an old maid aunt and his grandmother. He left home to make his way in the world about age 12-14. Nothing is known of the next 20 years except that he married, had two daughters, and ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah where he led a band at the Salt-Aire Beach Co. He had the band at least 2 years. There he met his 2nd wife Bertha Augusta DeVaughn.

He moved to Chicago as a traveling salesman (of auto parts) for the Thomas Mehan Co. about 1917. He took Bertha to her sister Anna's farm at Lake Genoeva, Wis. to deliver Harry DeVaughn Montgomery in 1918 while he returned to Chicago and continued working. He brought wife and child to Chicago in spring of 1919.

He moved to Louisville, Ky. in 1920, probably still working for Thomas Mehan Co. He organized the StanSanCo Club for employees of the Standard Sanitary Mfg. Co. (later named American Standard). The club was supported by the company and had a canteen for activities such as dances, prize fights (employee contestants), etc. He formed and directed a band from the club members. The band played at the club dances and various other functions.

He organized and conducted the Louisville Symphony Orchestra (not to be confused with the later Lousville Orchestra) about 1925. He played and taught all musical instruments.

He owned and operated a grocery store.

He sold display materials for Botanical Supply Co. and Display Creations Inc. Gradually he started installing and designing displays as well as selling the materials for them. This led to his last career (Circa 1935) as owner and operator of Montgomery Studios located in downtown Louisville over the Boston Shoe Co., north of the Starks Building.

He died shortly after returning home from setting up a display one evening. He walked into the bedroom, spoke to his wife and reached for the cord on the overhead light. He dropped dead of a heart attack without ever reaching the light cord.

Harry's aunt wasn't sure whether his birthday was on Oct 10 or Oct 15 so they celebrated both. Harry Arthur's Father had a brother. His father and uncle were named Bob and George, but not sure which is Bob and which is George.

One was Casper, bishop of Muenster; other was Clement, archbishop of Cologne. Melchoir van Droste was one of three brothers named after the three Wise Men. Melchoir was the only survivor. Sentiment thinks they were triplets. ........ (Melchoir) Dropped the van when coming to America. Settled in Ferdinand, Indiana. Was squire (magistrate in today's usage), a wagon maker, huge scale operator, and prominent citizen. Married three times, each time going back to the "old country" for a woman who "knew how to work." Much of the chronological order and verification of names is to be desired. The Ferdinand cemetery is replete with Droste names and dates, in German, and much weathered.

John Henry Mueller Jr. Doris May Mueller Norbert Vincent Mueller Named after Rose Bode O.S.U. Rose lost her hearing at age 6 as a result of scarlet fever. She attended the school for the deaf in Danville Ky. from age 7 or 8 until she finished high school. She attended Galludet College in Washington D.C. where she met her husband John Henry Mueller. She intended to become a teacher of the deaf, he was studying to be an Episcopalian Minister. At the time Galludet was the only college in the country exclusively for deaf students. Rose and John were both attending on scholarships. Roses' parents were of the opinion that female higher education was an unnecessary expense and when her mother found out that Rose, who had been raised Catholic, was dating a Protestant she brought Rose home from college. That summer Rose and John eloped to Carrolton Ky. where they were married by a Minister of the Peace on August 23, 1909. They were remarried about 1920-1922 at St. Martin Catholic Church, Louisville, Ky. by Father Amelian OSB.
